My Award-Winning Portrait with Derwent Lightfast 🏆

Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencil and Paper Review-(Not Sponsored! Just sharing the love!💜) 

After hearing the rave reviews for almost a year, I finally broke down and tried Derwent Lightfast pencils. I thought the last thing I needed was one more pencil.

I was so happy with Polychromos and Luminance..with a few Caran d'Ache Aquarelle pencils sprinkled in. 🤩

But there was a sale, and that's apparently all it took. I purchased 12 pencils open stock, including the famous Nightshade. My first drawing with the oil-based Lightfast pencils was on Fabriano Hot-Pressed watercolor paper, bright white. Using them in conjunction with Polychromos and Luminance was a breeze. I was instantly hooked.

There was an art show that I was planning on entering, and I heard great things about Derwent Lightfast paper. Since I loved the pencils, I thought how reputable it would be to enter colored pencil artwork on museum-quality, 100% lightfast paper.

So, the Derwent Lightfast paper sample pack arrived at my door within days, along with, of course, more Lightfast pencils. The paper was smoother than I expected; it's a hot-pressed, natural white color.

I'm smitten with the detail I achieved on the Lightfast paper using Lightfast pencils. I got up to six layers of pencils, including two applications of Odorless Mineral Spirits.

The pencils blended like butter. The colors, especially the purples, blues, and greens, are just dreamy.

Between the weapon-like fine point that the Lightfast pencils can achieve (I use the Derwent super-point sharpener) and the silky-smooth Lightfast paper, they are a match made in Colored Pencil Heaven™! 😇

I'm convinced the Derwent Lightfast pencils and paper are why I received the Honorable Mention award at our Chicago Colored Pencil Society Art Show. 👏

I can't imagine my toolbox without Derwent Lightfast pencils or Lightfast paper. The best way I can justify all the pencils I have now is to draw more, lots more!
